!!!sub2020 Open Call
You can find the application form below the text.
Through the RJNR project, realized during the 2018-2019 cycle, sub contributed to the dynamism of the arts and culture scene in Çanakkale by creating a turnover of guests and locals.
Now for the year 2020, the !!! project prepares to increase the momentum of intergenerational and -disciplinary interaction by inviting experienced artists and researchers to create works within the project’s context as well as running a series of workshops examining ecological concepts centred on Çanakkale and its periphery through an interdisciplinary and -regional approach based on memory;
Spanning ten months, the collaborative and communication-based documentation and mapping project !!! aims to produce alternative narratives with reference to the dynamics of the Çanakkale region that connect the local and the global, the natural and the cultural, and the past and present.
Today, mainstream narratives and discourses about environmental sensitivities appeal to specific behavior and needs of the society; however, they fail to reveal or raise awareness on the essence of the problem.
Such mainstream national and historical narratives also perform the notion of remembering and preserving the past through symbolic ascribing, representation and identification mechanisms. They maintain their existence through memorized, repetitive roles and archaic narrations. Incapable of transferring a culture, they cannot relate neither past nor present complexity of conditions.
Therefore, creating alternative narratives that transform the memory of Çanakkale and its surroundings in relation to ecological beings and processes is important in terms of opening the mainstream deadlock and raising alternative models, increasing actions for the solutions of current critical problems. The emphasis on ecology in alternative narratives stems from an understanding of nature as a whole and the urge to develop propositions for processes of production/consumption.
We believe that it is the right time to realize the project, considering the environmental conflicts as well as the ecological awareness and sensitivity awakened locally in the Ida Mountains and its surroundings. The aim is to support, make visible and circulate collaborations and productions of the Guest, Resident and Local participants through a series of supportive events.
April - July 2020: Invitee, Guest and Local Programs*
The project !!! will determine its participants via open call published for artists, writers, curators, researchers, photographers and academics working within the context of space, memory and ecology.
Invited, Guest and Local programs will work together to create an environment for collaborations between artists and researchers working in an interrelated context, to witness different processes of artistic production, and to explore ways and possibilities of collective production.
During the period of !!!, sub aims to host 3 artist/researcher groups between 15 May and 15 July, creating possibilities for collaboration between guest and local artists and supporting the production of these collaborations.
sub will communicate with prospective participants working on similar topics from different disciplines, and a team member from the sub-initiative will be provided in working groups, formed with the approval of each member of the group.
